Design & Display
At first glance, the Honor MagicBook 14 appears as a stylish, sleek laptop that could have high-end hardware. It’s slim, lightweight look and elegant design leave an expression of premium quality. With a matte-finish metal case, the laptop weighs around 3lbs (1.38kg).
It has a 14-inch wide FHD display with a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080. The AMD Radeon Vega 8 ensures you get snappy visuals with bright, vivid colours.
Keyboard & Touchpad
Honor has kept the keyboard simple and up to the mark for comfy user experience. There is no weird function doubling and the layout is sensible, while the right shift keys, large backspace and Enter key is of UK-specific double-hight. We didn’t experience any uncomfortable bounce or flex to the keyboard base while using the laptop.
The touchpad id wide enough to ensure effective multitouch gestures and we found it reliable for Windows 10.
Connectivity
Honor MagicBook 14 has a decent array of ports, making sure you don’t have to struggle for connectivity. The laptop has two traditional Type-A ports, HDMI socket, one USB Type-C port (Thunderbolt 3-enabled) and a 3.5mm audio jack.
In addition, the company has equipped the MagicBook 14 with Honor’s Magic-Link 2 technology. This enables the user to transfer media files by simply tapping the Honor phone below the keyboard, on the NFC chip.
Performance
Overall, Honor’s MagicBook 14 deliver above-average performance when we run different software. Although it is equipped with an 8GB RAM, the laptop showed lagging when we ran heavy media editing programs. However, it delivers smooth performance when we perform day to day tasks and browse multiple tabs.
Battery Life
The MagicBook 14 has a 56Wh Lithium-Ion battery, which (according to the company) can last for up to 10 hours on a single charge. This is good timing for a mid-range laptop to have. Also, the battery charges up very fast, thanks to USB-C charging port. This simply means that you can top up the battery with any type-C charger.
Verdict
As a mid-range laptop, the Honor MagicBook 14 is an affordable device that can deliver smooth performance. Although it struggles with intense software, this is a powerful laptop to accomplish daily tasks. The MagicBook 14 is the right pick for professionals who need a sleek laptop with decent features at a reasonable price.
