Judging by its hardware, Huawei MateBook X Pro is a feature-packed laptop with superior specs.
Design & Build
The MateBook X Pro has a similar design and build like its previous model, Huawei MateBook X. It has an aluminium unibody frame (silver wedge or Space Gray), with a lightweight lid that can be opened with a single hand. There’s a shiny beveled edge around the keyboard deck and its screen is nearly bezel-less.
Huawei MateBook X Pro is 0.6 inches thick, with a 13.9-inch display and weighs around 2.9lbs (1.3kg). These figures put MateBook X Pro in line with Apple’s 13-inch MacBook Pro model.
Display
With a 13.9-inch screen, the MateBook X Pro has a closer to square display than most laptops. It has a 3:2 aspect ratio with a very high 3,000 × 2,000 resolution. Although 1,240:1 isn’t a high contrast ratio, it’s still admirable for a laptop like this. Moreover, the retina-scorching brilliance supresses the glare and ensure a bright display in almost all the conditions.
Keyboard & Touchpad
Huawei’s MateBook X Pro offers a better keyboard experience than MacBook Pro, which has incredibly shallow keys. Its keys only require 69 grams of force for activation, whereas the vertical travel between the keys is around 1.1mm.
Its 4.7 x 3.0-inch touchpad responds smoothly to your commands and can accurately track your inputs. We’ve tested the MateBook X Pro’s touchpad for two-finger window scrolling and it worked smoothly. It also responded to three-finger gestures and accurately worked for window management.
However, the keyboard features the same unappealing centrally positioned pop-up webcam. There’s a circular power button in the top right corner which also works as a fingerprint scanner.
Performance
Huawei has armed the MateBook X Pro with a quad-core i5 processor, an 8GB high memory and 512GB solid-state drive. So, you can expect a smooth performance while multitasking and can browse multiple tabs without stuttering. Thanks to NVIDIA GeForce MX250, its 13.9-inch wide display delivers superb visuals and vivid colours without any lagging.
Huawei claims that the MateBook X Pro’s battery could last up to 13 hours. Although it is true for videoplay, it lasted around 10 hours when we tested the MateBook X Pro for moderate battery life. However, the laptop didn’t show any signs of overheating and didn’t produce noise when we run multiple heavy software at the same time.
Connectivity
On the right side of Huawei MateBook X Pro is a boxy, USB 3.0 Type-A port. Whereas it carries a headphone jack, USB Type C port and Thunderbolt 3 port on the left side. The combination of the traditional Type-A port and the reversible Type-C ports means you don’t have to carry an additional adapter for older devices.
Verdict
Overall, Huawei’s MateBook X Pro is a premium quality notebook, with high-end specs and features. It is a decent choice for those who need a powerful laptop that can offer a similar experience like a MacBook at a low price. This speedy, powerful device can handle heavy programs and allow the user to accomplish tasks in one sitting, thanks to its long-lasting battery.
